I have advice for you based on something I read about 30 years ago plus or minus. This was just a little blurb on a page in some magazine. It was amazingly wise and worthy of mention in our message of directed brain management.

Are you fat, are you thin, are you just right? What does your brain think? What does your body think?

Forget diets. If you are thinner or fatter than you think you should be, pay attention.

You have to make your brain and body agree on your appearance and state of health. When they develop a committed consensus, they will conform.

Sit back, relax. In your minds eye look your body up and down from the tip of your toes to the top of your head. Imagine how you want your bones dressed. Imagine that your body is very healthy.

1. Take a deep breath and imagine your breath flowing through your body and dressing your bones the way you think you should look.

2. Take another deep breath and repeat.

3. Take a third deep breath and repeat the exercise.

Say to yourself: “Through the miraculous power of my ultra mind I direct my physical body to begin immediately to lose (or gain) weight. This weight will be lost (or gained) only where necessary and with this weight loss (or gain) my body will achieve perfect health.

(You might prefer to adjust the reading to something you feel more comfortable with.)

Repeat the three deep breaths and imagining exercise.

Say to yourself: “Through the miraculous power of the ultra mind, I direct a healing of my appetite so I desire only those foods that are good for me in the quantities that lead to losing (or gaining) weight. With this weight loss (or gain) I am getting more and more healthy.

I am slim and trim and weigh XXX pounds. (goal number of pounds)

Repeat your desired weight throughout the day whenever you think of it.

How Does It Work

You form a consensus between your mind and body that suits both. Your subconscious will work away at creating the physical reality that conforms to your mental picture.

There is some suggestion that you can actually make yourself taller or more busty. I am just refining what I’ve got.

Commit to sticking with this habit of doing this script about 3 times daily. Your body should gradually attain the desired weight and stay there. It you get off track, don’t worry about it, just start again.

It does not mean to renew our efforts to create a global wide cess pool. It does not mean that an unnecessary guilt trip has been laid on humanity for no reason. It does not mean that now is the time to stop being adult, responsible citizens. It does not mean that global warming is all a hoax.

It means that a variable, that scientists thought was insignificant, has been able to neutralize the global warming for 10 years. The sun spots and solar flares have disappeared. In the 1700′s they disappeared for forty years and created a mini-ice age. However, after forty years they did come back.

Are we taking that as licence to see whether we can destroy the world before they come back? We don’t know if this is a normal part of the solar cycle or if they will return next week.

Laying a guilt trip is very childish and it’s time to give up such silliness. Guilt is a heavy negative feeling for bullies to lay on people who scare them. Guilt is depressing and pollutes our minds and bodies and communities and the world by de-energizing. If depression is where it’s at, we know how to lay guilt trips and how to depress people. Just look at the Inquisition. What did it achieve other than to make people look like fools?

If we are in danger of freezing or over-heating, the only way we will achieve quality of life is by cleaning up our attitudes, cleaning up our lifestyle and cleaning up the environment we live in. Developing mature brains and supporting the development of mature brains is what will make the world a great place for all particles that call this planet home. Affirming action is where it’s at.

“Procrastination is the thief of time.” – Edward Young (1683-1765) What is procrastination? Why is it the thief of time?

I would venture to say that any word that allows us to communicate is a valuable part of the English language. Procrastination means putting off, postponing, delaying action until another time. What does that communicate to you?

It means let’s put off until all the relevant facts are in. What if your family is planning a picnic? It is thundering and lightning, the wind is roaring and the rain is pouring down. The weather report forecasts sunshine. Should you cancel the picnic or should you procrastinate for a little while to see if the storm blows over? Perhaps you can enjoy your picnic after all. You could also decide that procrastinating is a waste of time and plan a Scrabble game instead.

Which is the wrong thing to do? Should you procrastinate or should you scratch the picnic? I don’t think either is a wrong choice unless you chose not to procrastinate; the storm actually blew over and you could have had a beautiful picnic in a favourite location and you feel cheated. Either situation would have been a beautiful family occasion as long as you did not choose to invest it with bad feelings.

The solution, in this case, would be to decide to procrastinate until a certain time that would still leave enough time to enjoy the outing. If that time has elapsed and the weather has not cooperated, then go for the alternate plan of a scrabble game and picnic on the living room rug. You might also focus on the alternate plan unless the weather changes soon enough to enjoy the outing. Whichever choice you settle on, do not spoil a family occasion with bad feelings.

There is nothing bad about procrastinating. It leaves your options open until you have the necessary facts to make a decision. Procrastination is just another brain skill to aid in organizing. Do not invest the word with a negative connotation. Use it to empower yourself.

So far I have been pretty general. I like a general overview but specific gets the job done. Do you have any preschoolers who don’t keep their room in order and don’t know how to put a meal together? Can everyone in your household leave the bathroom spotless behind them and sort the laundry?

That’s where living well starts. A good environment in which to thrive. It is my belief that a safe comfort zone should exist where you live and where you grow up. Every individual should, ideally, contribute energy to the home that creates an atmosphere of acceptance and an expectation of successful enterprise.

There is all kinds of great stuff to be found on the internet to show you how to develop and reinforce this atmosphere. The House Fairy is an excellent place to start. Her program can be downloaded for $15.00 and will inspire you and your kids to get going and get organized.

Now is the time. I don’t mean you’ve been gathering your thoughts in the middle of the night and now is the time to follow through. I mean when the time is right to follow through you do it now.

It is necessary to prepare yourself for what you want to do. So far we have organized our head by removing stress that might dilute the energy we need to work with; we then gather our energy and focus with meditation. That is huge. It takes discipline to pull that off. It comes naturally when you are young but by maintaining this focus throughout your life, you keep up the energy that makes the doing easy.

You must do. To maximize your energy you must do it “now”, now or in the moment or with mindfullness.

Focus on the physical outcome you wish to manifest and go for it. Go for it now and don’t think about anything except what you are doing. eg. multi tasking does not cut it. If your purpose is to learn to multi task, you might be successful.

The problem with multi tasking is that your focus is divided. You can, however, establish a flowing pattern to focus on that will allow you to multi task for the purpose of the outcome you wish to manifest.

The recommended goal of this exercise is to manifest the desired outcome in the most efficient manner possible. In order to create your optimized potential, you want as much time freed up as possible for the purpose of achieving your next goal. Now is where the power is at. Being in a temper or blaming someone else or moaning and groaning about it may generate some power but it will more likely sap your energy. The power of now, separate from emotion, is amazing.

How do you establish a new habit? You have to energize the cells in your brain that are just sitting and waiting to be told what to do. This is where meditation comes in.

Meditation strengthens your focus so you don’t waste your energy. Long before we knew about neuroplasticity, the human race was aware that the practice of meditation would energize you big time. In the early 1900’s, a French pharmacist and humanist named Emile Coué coined the well known slogan: ”Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better. ”

Sit down or lie down, close your eyes, imagine that your entire body is totally relaxed and repeat several times, “Every day in every way I am getting better and better.” Repeat this exercise at least once a day, or two or three times. This is called directed meditation or self-hypnosis. If you relax and just exist for a few minutes before the exercise you would be meditating. Meditation doesn’t have any mental input.

This is a generic exercise that strengthens your ability to imagine and to focus. It makes you the better and better person you imagine yourself to be. When you have developed new needs and need to focus on a new goal you just edit this exercise. Always edit with what you intend to achieve.

If you want to lose weight do not think about losing weight. Your mind probably doesn’t want to lose anything. Your mind will probably attack with alacrity the idea of getting slimmer. Every day in every way I am getting slimmer and slimmer. Every day in every way I am getting healthier and healthier. Every day in every way I am getting stronger and stronger. Every day in every way I am getting more and more ripped. Keep focusing on this new lesson you want to learn until it is an habitual part of your lifestyle or until you have achieved what you want to achieve.

Find out more about Emile Coué at this website. One of his fascinating books is free to download:

Okay. Now I’ve walked all over your feelings and given you the impression that I don’t value feelings and that they should be set aside. As harsh as that seems you must do it. That is mean isn’t it? It’s worse even than that. I am not only telling you that you have to set them aside, I am telling you that you have to own them and be responsible for them.

Have you been beaten and put down? Do you feel that the whole world doesn’t care about you? Has the world outside of yourself rejected you and left you feeling alone and uncared for? Even worse, do you feel that you are ill treated because of something that you can’t control? Are you a woman in a man’s world or black in a white world? Is your religion different from others in the neighbourhood? Have you got some horrible disease?

What are you going to do about it? You can mope around and feel hard done by. I am sure you feel entitled and I am sure you can find some sympathy. There are lots of do gooders who can’t wait to bolster their own self-esteem by reassuring you that you have the right to feel sorry for yourself.

I don’t care. I don’t care because I don’t think you will be empowered to escape your unhappy situation by feeling sorry for yourself and blaming the other guy. You have to mourn. You have been deprived somehow and you have missed out on life because of it and you can wallow in self pity for a while. Do you feel stronger now? You may. You may also be disgusted with yourself. Disgust is good.

Do not settle into the thought that someone did you wrong and you are entitled to get him or to make him pay or force the other guy to shape up. You can’t fix other people. You can fix yourself by releasing the bad feelings and stress of the situation.

You got involved in a bad situation. You may not know how or why it was you and not someone else but the point is that it was you and you have to fix yourself. No one can fix you except you. You chose the feelings to manifest as a result of how you were treated, you have to decide to fix yourself and manifest your potential. I am routing for you.

You are going to give up these bad feelings and focus on fixing your life so you can maximize your potential. If you don’t, you will have to live with the fact that you have let the other guy win. The only way you can win is to organize your brain and get on with being the person you are meant to be.

Think that you can and do it. The thing about a plastic brain is pretty obvious. It has to be plastic if you are going to fix it but because it is plastic it is easier to just dodge the issue.

You must remove the emotions you feel from the equation. Are you mad at someone? Are you sick and think you have a right to feel bad about it? Do you have more problems developing a skill than your friends do? Do you avoid it because it’s hard or do you even pride yourself on your inability?

Emotions are powerful things. They are a natural part of your makeup and you are entitled to your emotions. It is human to be emotional and as a thinking human being you can make the decision that you have a right to an emotional reaction. As a thinking human being you can also decide it is time to move on and create an exciting life.

Many people will just say to themselves that they have wallowed in their issues long enough and it is time to move on. On the other hand, many people have had traumatic experiences that are hardwired into their brain and they have to deal with them before letting them go. Sometimes you don’t even know what the deep buried trauma is that interferes with your creativity. The feeling from it just rises up and overwhelms at the most inconvenient moments.

Before you can work effectively at maximizing your potential you must deal with your emotions. You can set them aside. This is easy to do with meditation and hypnotherapy. If you can’t maintain the necessary focus to be successful you can be taught to manage your emotions by a hypnotherapist or you can use hypnotherapy to work through them. Hypnotherapy and meditation allow you to set aside emotional content and maximize the power in your brain that allows you to regroup and go for it.

I grew up with this motto playing in my head. It was written on a green and white pennant and posted by the black board in every classroom in Rideau Public School , Kingston, Ontario, Canada . I read it many times a day and was not quite sure what it meant.

I am sure it was based on the Bible verse “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” That was written on a wooden plate that hung in my room as a child. I won it in a competition for memorizing Bible verses.

I had many experiences where things just seemed to fall into place and produce an amazing outcome. Generally speaking though, I was more inclined to just act when I had to. I was a lazy unconscious thinker and it didn’t occur to me that careful, organized thought would get me what I wanted.

I now have some more enlightened understanding. Scientific research has put this idea of being what we think into context. If you organize your brain you can go out into the world and achieve what you programmed your brain to do. That’s where it all begins. You think about what you want and your brain puts it together.

We now know that the brain is plastic (neuroplasticity) and we can make it conform to what we want it to do. In order to make it function at its potential you must feed it properly, avoid drugs, exercise it properly, separate emotions from it and meditate. I didn’t make this up. I just read the gist of it in the most recent Canadian edition of the Readers Digest.

Follow this link and you will find an article that gives suggestions for feeding your brain.

So organization starts with active management of your brain. Imagine what would happen if you were taught how to manage your brain and encouraged to develop your own potential. Life would unfold in an ordered fashion and you would maximize your potential over time. Your potential for a great life is greatly enhanced when you have the confidence of knowing how to organize your brain. You are responsible for your brain’s activities and you can fix what might go wrong.

I have never met one person who experienced growing up with this awareness. Not to worry. The brain is plastic. Any time you like you can start to retrain and develop the habits that will achieve what you wish to achieve. It really is just that simple.

The drawback, of course, is that it takes focus, the development of good habits and practice, practice, practice. Your brain may not like the discipline but committment provides energy.

Are you good at math? It might just come to you and you built on your strengths. On the other hand, it might take practice. Did you have difficulty with a problem? How many times did you review it? Did you try a hundred times or a thousand? You have to think the problem through until you get it. Once you get it, build on it with the next step. I always thought when I was learning Math in college that you should not pass unless you got your exam perfect. You need to understand one step before moving on to the next. Many kids probably get lost and think they can’t catch up. Know it before you move on. Get a different person to explain it. They might express it differently so you are able to pick it up. Make sure you know it. Half of Math doesn’t cut it.

Have you had an accident that damaged your brain? Are you physically or mentally impaired? Neuroplasticity of the brain allows you to actually rebuild the brain by healing the injury or working around it. The drawback is that it takes focus and boring, maybe painful, repetition of the behaviour you wish to restore.

Ten years ago many people healed themselves of unbelievable problems by persistance, persistance, persistance at a program they developed themselves without knowing whether it would work. Science has now proved that it works. People can take on seemingly impossible challenges knowing that they are likely to succeed if they persist for long enough. And because the science is out there, there is more support out there.

They can who think they can because the exercise of thinking will change the brain so it will happen. Persistence is the key. It has been said that the Beatles and Bill Gates were successful after they had practiced for about 10,000 or more hours. You can do it too.

If you aren’t prepared to start a food stash all at once, you can sneak up on it. I can recommend two ways to go about this.

All you have to do is prepare a family favourite and double the recipe. Do not throw it all in a bowl and put it on the table. Your kids, especially teens are very likely to just keep eating until it’s gone. No, no, no! We are not saving the leftovers that may or may not happen. Plan ahead.

Put out a box or bag designed for freezing food and place half of the meal you have prepared into that container. Write the date and the contents on the outside with a marker that will withstand freezing. When it is cool enough put it in the freezer. Make sure you also write the contents and date on your freezer inventory.

If you did this every night for a month you would have enough meals for next month. If you occasionally double the meal you would have an occasional backup.

The second approach is to prepare the basic ingredient that is common to several recipes. The first recipe that comes to my mind is marinara sauce and meatballs work great too. Double, triple or quadruple the recipe and serve it as spaghetti. Reserve the rest in one, two or three freezer containers and add the others to stew, vegetables, soup, lasagna, etc. Make the sauce without meat and throw in frozen meatballs when you are heating it up. Meatballs can be used with many different flavoured sauces or made into stew or soup.

Whatever would make more variety in your family menu and save you time and effort in the long run is worth the planning now. Purchasing food in bulk and dividing it out ahead of time may save you money as well. Do not buy and lug home a lot of food unless you are ready to deal with it immediately. If something comes up and you are unable to prepare it, at least divide up the perishables into manageable packages to freeze and prepare later when it is more convenient. There is lots of help out there for learning to manage food preparation or for new ideas or for solving a particular issue:
